It was an exciting week for WURD. To start off, we are pretty sure Mondays are not everyone’s favorite. But, this Monday at WURD two very inspiring guests graced the Wake up with Bill Anderson show. Author Randall Robinson kicked off the show with a discussion centered on his book "Makeda." In that same hour, Reverend Jesse Jackson stopped by the WURD studio to talk about the Penn State scandal, what is on his political radar, as well as give his most sincere condolences for Philadelphia Native and Boxing World Champion Joe Frazier.  Later on in the day, we kicked off our Kwanzaa360 initiative with our first event- a Literary Café featuring Randall Robinson at the African American Museum. Mr. Robinson lectured on his book “Makeda” to a full audience, which followed a book signing. Thursday, we broadcast live from Philadelphia’s City Council. After last week’s Hearing was cancelled due to the observance of Veterans Day, there lots of new and revised legislation Members of Council had on schedule to discuss. WURD's Bill Anderson, along with in-house correspondent Fatimah Ali, covered the live segment. Although City Council Hearings usually run as planned- voting, Robert's Rule of Law, testimonies from constituents, etc, this week’s event brought slightly different excitement. To say the least, Occupy Philly Protestors interrupted the Hearing proclaiming it was the "people's council,” thus voting on what they thought was relevant. Occupy Protestors continued to chant for several minutes while city officials present struggled to get the situation under control.
