This week in review…  We are keeping our Kwanzaa360 initiative moving as we highlight and focus on one of the 7 principles each week leading up to Kwanzaa, celebrated internationally on December 26. This week Ujima, meaning collective work and responsibility, was emphasized through our special on air and in the community programming. On Monday, Wake up with Bill Anderson broadcast his monthly Breakfast with Brady segment live from the Gold Standard Cafe located on Baltimore Avenue. On Wednesday, Wake up with Bill kicked off the day with a live broadcast from SIS Fitness Gym, located on 1320 Somerset Avenue. CEO and President Melanie Marchand started the gym in efforts of helping to improve fitness within the African-American community. WURD hosted a series of free classes including Zumba with WURD Account Executive Kira Clifford, a modified version of Vinyasa Yoga with President and General Manager Sara Lomax-Reese, and Senior Fitness with Melanie. WURD listeners brought a buddy with them to motivate one another to get fit.  Host Bill Anderson also got his fitness on dancing and hosting his show at the same time! Through collective engagement and taking control of our health, we can grow into a healthier self.  Later that day, Mentor and Public Speaker Howard R. Jean joined Al B! In the Afternoon to talk about his latest endeavor of mentoring,  tying  Kwanzaa principle Ujima into how we can take responsibility of an at-risk young person.

And for TGIF, we teamed up with the Philadelphia Health Department to host a “Quit-a-Thon” in efforts to encourage listeners to quit smoking, providing information on health risks smoking presence, as well as gave out “quit kits.” Listeners were invited to call in and give testimonials of how they stopped smoking. Medical professionals and specialists from various health institutions in Philly stopped by the WURD studios and gave advice on ways to quit smoking and the latest on smoking research, including Director of the Asthma Control Department of the Children's Hospital, Dr. Tyra Bryant-Stevens. For more information call 1-800 QUIT NOW.

** Join us during Al B! in the Afternoon with Al Butler (from 4pm-6pm) as we broadcast live from Vivant Art Collection located on 60 North 2nd Street. Kwanzaa360 merchandise will also be available on-site for purchase. **
