Michael Jackson: The Legacy That Lives

In celebration of the third anniversary of the life of Michael Jackson, WURD presents a brief recap of the life and legacy of the king of pop icon.

Michael Jackson: The Legacy That Lives

Three years ago today, King of pop icon Michael Jackson was pronounced dead at age 50 after suffering from cardiac arrest while at home. As the investigation of his death made international headlines, Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. According to police reports, Dr. Murray was over medicating Michael Jackson and incidentally was the cause of his death.  Dr. Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in jail.

Three years later since the untimely death of the king of pop, Michael Jackson still has been one of the most significant entertainers the business has come to know. Through the words of his music, and the grace of his actions, Michael Jackson was able to pass messages of love, hope and compassion to tens of millions of people worldwide.  The legacy that Michael Jackson leaves behind is something that not most artist are able to do selling somewhere between 100-500 million albums worldwide.

Michael Jackson made his first debut in 1964 as the lead singer in The Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 would eventually come to be the first group to have ever had four consecutive No1 singles. As the soon to be labeled king of pop icon grew older, he eventually separated himself from the family band to pursue a solo career.  Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album made it to the Guinness Book of World Records by becoming the biggest selling album of all time with over 50 million copies sold worldwide. Also, “Thriller” was the biggest selling album in the U.S. selling over 25 million copies. That’s not all the king of pop has to offer, Michael Jackson has won more awards than any other artist, and also had the highest ever viewership during Super Bowl XXVII on June 31, 1993, in which an estimated 133.4 million viewers tuned in to watch his half time performance.  The truth of the matter is, so much can be said about the record breaking legend such as the fact that no other male artist had more No1 hits on Billboard “Hot 100) Singles Chart or more importantly, not many other artist were dedicated nor committed to spending not only money but time to charities such as Michael Jackson did in his lifetime.  Michael Jackson’s legacy will continue to live on through the souls of members of family, friends and of course fans throughout the world.
