Man of the Hour!Feb 25, 2013 | News Archive
The man who saved Naila Robinson.
The man of the hour award would definitely go to Nelson Mandela Myers. This 27-year-old gentleman has received praise from Mayor Michael Nutter, council members and the support from the people of the Philadelphia community. Commendations have come from Philadelphia’s city's leaders for being such a great Samaritan when he discovered 5-year-old Naila Robinson, who was abducted from Bryant Elementary School early Monday morning.
On Tuesday January 15, 2013 Myers was on his daily route going to work as a sanitation worker in Norristown, when he heard screams and cries for help. Those screams and cries soon turned out to be young Naila Robinson, who went missing the day before. Myers found 5 year old Naila lying under a jungle gym in a playground located on 69th street in Upper Darby, PA. The 5 year old was found wearing nothing but a wet over-sized T-shirt, she had also exclaimed to Myers that someone was after her and that she was running from someone that was chasing her. Myers then immediately put his jacket around the shivering little girl and called the police to come identify the little girl. Myers soon became the hero of the terrible nightmare that took place just the day before.
For being such a good Samaritan, Myers received $10,000 from Mayor Michael Nutter. The Mayor also referred to Myers as "sharp eyed," "quick thinking," and "big hearted." Myers is still being praised a month later for being such law abiding citizen. Myers also expressed that he was only doing what "good guy" should to do.
Myers resides in Upper Darby, PA with his wife Janie and children.
